At Verdoie, we believe there’s power in knowing what’s enough and actually enjoying it. A slow breakfast. A good outfit. A BonBon. A product that just works.
Under the Surface is about cutting through the noise, the trends, the fluff, the overpromised fixes, and returning to what’s intelligent, intentional, and a little indulgent.
Because when you stick to what truly supports you, everything else — skin, self, spirit — simply follows.
We are so excited to introduce the first guest in our new series: @spencermalinski, textile designer and co-founder of artisanal rug studio @spenyrugs. We spent time with her to see how she carves out space for play and pause, and the small ways she stays grounded.

Q&A with Spencer Malinski
When you’re stressed, where do you feel it first?
I feel it in my cheeks! They start to generate heat and it's hard to miss. When I feel my skin is burnt out I start with trying to slow down my environment/bringing in some peace. Then I'll address any inflammation with an ice roller, an overnight moisturizing sheet mask and red light therapy. A tall glass of water or a hot tea for bonus points.
What does taking care of yourself actually look like right now? / What’s a small habit or ritual that always brings you back to yourself?
Right now it looks like saying no to more and intentionally carving out time for myself. A small ritual that brings me back to myself is making a nice, leisurely breakfast. Or a workout class. Or a good outfit.
What’s something you’ve let go of in your beauty or wellness routine? / What’s a beauty trend you’d be happy to never see again? / What’s a beauty or wellness “rule” you’re happy to ignore?
Something I've let go of in my beauty routine is having a ton of products in rotation. I try to keep it simple so my skin doesn't get overwhelmed. A beauty trend I'd be happy to never see again....mouth taping. A rule I'm happy to ignore- natural deodorant...sorry!!
How do you remind yourself you’re already doing enough? / What’s something you're proud of?
I have to do this a lot! For me, as long as I am actively taking steps towards an established goal and making sure to clear out space for those goals to grow/evolve- I am doing enough. Most recently I am proud of Speny, a rug brand I just launched with my best friend!
Is there a part of your day that feels sacred?
Mornings. Not that I am an early morning person but I love the feeling of a fresh start and having a couple hours to myself.
What’s something you know isn’t great for you, but you have no plans to quit? (Snack, habit etc.)
I order BonBon delivery and I don't plan to change.
Why it matters
Spencer’s approach reminds us that real support doesn’t always look dramatic — it looks like calm, comfort, and consistency. The best rituals are simple ones done with intention. The kind that soften you. That ground you.
